Generali Global Health take the Top Prize at the ITIJ Awards
Held at the Hotel President Wilson in Geneva on 1 November, the glittering event – now in its 16th year – honours those companies that have made an outstanding contribution to the global travel and health insurance industry over the past year.
We are delighted to announce that Generali Global Health (GGH) were the winners of Travel Insurer/Underwriter of the Year at this year’s International Travel & Health Insurance Journal (ITIJ) Awards.
Despite a strong field – finalists included Allianz Partners and Ingle International – GGH scooped the prestigious prize in recognition of their success in disrupting the IPMI market and providing some of the most flexible products and holistic services available to our brokers, clients and members.
This is a massive achievement for the GGH team, as the division was launched just three years ago. Since that time, we have been successful in rapidly growing the business and taking international medical insurance to the next level.
A new approach to the market
GGH is striving to evolve the old paradigm of a health insurer as a claim payer: we are a Health and Wellness provider, a partner that actively works with our members to support their health and wellbeing long before they might get sick. This approach also has a very tangible and direct financial repercussion: managing a healthy population is more financially viable and socially responsible than to simply pay for a sick one.
Everything we do is based on consultation with our broker and distribution partners and the needs of our clients and members. During 2017 and 2018 we launched four significant ‘added value’ Member Services that are complementary with our plans:
1: Innovative genetic testing that leads to precise treatments
Members diagnosed with cancer or carrying cancer genes can opt to take a genome test. This simple blood test provides our member, and their consultants, with a prognosis that indicates the best treatment for their specific diagnosis. It means unnecessary tests, treatments and costs are avoided, and the patient receives the care that is exactly right for them.
2: Because we know that being globally mobile is not always easy
We know that moving overseas can be stressful. GGH’s Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provides an essential safety net when moving to a new country and role. Our EAP is a 24-hour support and counselling service for globally mobile employees and their families. Members can contact the service to get helpful advice and information within a specific country to make the transition and expatriate process easier, but also to give emotional support. Stress, depression and loneliness for workers is a global phenomenon and at GGH we believe that EAP support can help combat these ailments.
3: Two heads can be better than one
Our second opinion service provides an often much needed consultation with a world leading specialist who can provide their independent and confidential professional opinion on an existing diagnosis. The consultant will review medical records confirm and recommend accordingly. This is a service for members who might be unsure about a diagnosis or worried that medication is not working or want to know if there are alternative treatment options.
4: GP consultation any time and any where
The My Digital Doctor app allows patients to schedule an appointment at a convenient time with a doctor from our multilingual global teams. This is a service that is available 24/7 no matter where the member is either at home or in the office. Members can enquire about symptoms, medications or treatment plans. Following the consultation, the member can receive a referral letter or prescription. The app allows easy sharing of test results and all this can be done on a mobile phone.
